Equipment

  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 measuring spoons
  • 1 cutting board
  • 1 sharp knife
  • 1 serving platter

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (90% lean)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium carrot, finely diced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, finely diced
  • 3 stalks green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon chili sauce (optional) Can be omitted if not preferred.
  • 1 head butter or iceberg lettuce, leaves separated
  • as needed tablespoon sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, and sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant and the onion is translucent.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • Stir in the diced carrot and red bell pepper. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until they are slightly softened.
  • Add the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, and chili sauce (if using) to the beef mixture. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional minute to let the flavors meld together.
  • Remove the skillet from heat and add the chopped green onions to the mixture, stirring to combine.
  • To serve, spoon the beef mixture into the lettuce leaves, folding them like wraps. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

You can customize the filling by adding other vegetables or using ground chicken or turkey if preferred.
Serve with additional sauces like Sriracha or extra hoisin on the side for dipping.
These wraps are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat the beef filling before serving.
